A MAN found guilty of conspiracy to defraud the Home office, by claiming that asylum seekers were studying at his fictitious college, has been jailed for four months.

Isa Ibrahim, 47, of Carter Road, Lane End, mocked up fake documents from the make-believe college to back up false applications made by former High Wycombe magistrate and race-equality leader Alfred Webley.

When Home Office officials became suspicious they began an investigation which revealed that the fictitious Wye Valley Institute was Ibrahim's home address

Webley, 56, was jailed at Oxford Crown Court on Thursday for two years for his part in the scam.

Judge Peter Crawford told Ibrahim on Friday, also at Oxford Crown Court, that his was a lesser role and that he accepted his guilt immediately.

Clemency Firth, defending, said Ibrahim had been persuaded by Webley to provide the scam back-up.

She said: "Their roles were very different. My client did everything he could to put it right."

Judge Crawford said that Ibrahim came to the country without many advantages and accepted he was of previous good character but had allowed himself to be persuaded by Webley to carry out his deception.

He said: "I have come to the conclusion that it is absolutely necessary in your case that I should impose a custodial sentence."
