A PROPOSED skate park for teenagers has been slammed by householders after councillors revealed it may be built in a residential area.

Beaconsfield Town Council has selected several possible sites for the development, which is entering the first stage of a three part plan.

The town council has announced plans to employ a consultant to look into the location and setting up of the scheme.

But one of the proposed sites, Holtspur playing field, near Holtspur Close, has caused controversy among residents who are fearful of the prospect of unsupervised teenagers so near to their homes.

Accountant Oliver Burton, of Holtspur Close, said: "I am absolutely appalled at the prospect of lots of skateboarding kids hanging around this area."

Angela Curtis, who lives nearby in Wattleton Road, said the town council had the option of lots of other more suitable sites in the town.

She added: "This is a great idea but it needs to be put further away from residents."

Town councillor Paul Henry (Lib Dem, South Ward) attended a conference in Liverpool to look into the project in more depth.

He said: "We have hired the consultant to find the best site for us that will not cause inconvenience to residents."

Sergeant Gerry Lister, of Beaconsfield police, welcomed the idea and said: "The children in Beaconsfield have been promised a lot of extra activities and places to go so it would be great if this one could get off the ground."

Other sites being considered include a playground near Malthouse Square and two sites along the A40 between Beaconsfield and the Tesco roundabout.
