WYCOMBE Wanderers are celebrating after reaching the fourth round of the FA Cup for the first time in the club's history.

And now the town is being called on to join the party and watch Wycombe in their historic fourth round tie against Wolverhampton Wanderers on January 27.

The Blues dumped first division Grimsby Town out of the competition in Tuesday night's replay in Lincolnshire, to set up the tie at home to Division One glamour team Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Long-serving fan Monty Seymour, 86, said: "It's fantastic. They deserve it." He added: "It's amazing. I was in town this morning and there were a number of people talking about it. Everybody is pleased."

Monty, who first saw Wycombe play in 1923, now hopes more people can turn out to watch the Blues play, starting with their fourth round match.

"If only more people would come and watch the game," he said. "They can give Wolves a good game."

Club chairman Ivor Beeks, after seeing his team's 3-1 win, said Wycombe deserved a good turn-out for the fourth round tie.

He said: "It is a magnificent achievement for the club and we want the whole town to celebrate with us by turning up to our game against Wolves. The players have done Wycombe proud."

Monty said full credit should go to team manager Lawrie Sanchez.

He said: "It's probably a highlight of Lawrie Sanchez's career. It's the team spirit that's played them through. They play for each other."
