POP star pupils have been playing to the tune of success after forming a band at school and are about to release a CD.

The Cool Curzon Caf Orchestra, which is made up of 50 children from Curzon C of E Combined School, in the village of Penn Street, spent a day over Easter in a recording studio in Wokingham.

They recorded the first of three CD singles planned for limited edition release this year. Their first CD, Ringstone Round, will be available in a few weeks' time featuring a standard length and extended dance mix version.

Debbie Curtis, who is head of music at the school and wrote the material, said she was delighted with the group.

She added: "They are so enthusiastic. It is modern Caribbean, calypso, summer music.

"They identify with bands like S Club 7. They just fall asleep when you mention Beethoven. They wanted to do something they liked."

The line-up consists of several groups of keyboards, piano, drums and percussion, violins, guitars, recorders, clarinet and singers.

The orchestra intends to start performing live in the summer, beginning with the school summer fair on June 16.
