A L POWLEY (Letters, May 24) makes some good points and some bad points about McDonald's in Loudwater.

I really don't think the congestion he speaks of will be any worse from the hoards of poeple who will flock to McD's to spend their £10,000 -£20,000 a day.(This seems a highly unlikely amount.)

I expect one lorry load of food a day during working hours would be quite sufficient, although I may be wrong.

In a drive-thru' people "drive through" so not many spaces are required for those wishing to eat on the premises. McD's clear their own litter. As you are not a user of McD's you would not have seen staff sent into car parks/pavements to clear rubbish.

Crime is here all the time. We need a police deterrent (bobbies on the beat). I doubt you can prove McDonald's restaurants countrywide increase crime.

Perhaps the youths you speak of will be less bored if they have somewhere to go and won't cause the trouble you accuse them of (unfounded?).

I will try to answer your point on noise and fumes: A pub, as The White Blackbird site was, generates similar volumes of traffic. No-one can stop the site being used as a pub again (I think?). People using a pub can be a lot more rowdy than (mainly) families who use McDonald's.

What about the jobs that will be created for local people ? And will none of the people objecting to the site (you don't say how many) visit McDonald's when it opens ?

Does anyone else share my opinions or A.L.Powley's? Does the local planning authority have any comments ? Does McDonald's have anything to say?

By the way, the river is still a long way from the site. Rats will be more interested in food thrown to the ducks and not eaten, than a long walk to McDonalds for a "takeaway".
