HUNDREDS of pounds have been raised through Maplewood School's Blue Day charity fundraiser.

Blue beards, blue hair and blue clothes all contributed towards the Maplewood Hydrotherapy Pool Appeal for the school, in Cressex Road, High Wycombe.

Pupils at the school have both sensory and physical disabilities, as well as learning difficulties, and a hydrotherapy pool will help some of the students experience movement. The pool will cost £500,000.

Students at the school and at the Amersham campus of Amersham and Wycombe College, in Stanley Hill, paid £1 to go blue for the day.

Meanwhile, Star editor Steve Cohen will also be contributing towards the appeal fund when he takes part in the Wycombe Half Marathon.

He will be donating half of his sponsorship money to the pool appeal with the other half going to Cancer Research.

Pool appeal organisers also hope to raise more cash through a golf tournament being held on July 13.

Teams of four are invited to take part for £35 which includes the golf, a BBQ and a disco. Those who just want to eat, drink and dance, only need to pay £10 for a ticket.

There are also lots of signed goodies up for grabs, including signed Everton, Watford and Wycombe Wanderers' footballs and Maplewood Appeal t-shirts signed by Sir Steven Redgrave and Lorraine Kelly, patron of the charity.

Generous staff at The White Hart, in Chalfont St Peter, have also contributed towards the appeal by donating their tips to the cause.
