INTREPID couple Simon Oldcorn and Hazel Penn are setting off to Central America for the adventure of a lifetime.

The couple, from Loudwater, will cycle 280 miles across the Central American country of Costa Rica in aid of the National Deaf Children's Society.

The couple have pledged to raise £5,000 for the charity with the help of their employers Sybase and Tetley.

Simon, 28, a tea buyer and his partner Hazel, 29, a manager, are already in training for the gruelling trek.

They will leave on February 2 next year and will cycle 40 to 50 miles a day for seven days.

Simon said: "This is a real personal challenge for us, especially for Hazel, and we will complete the challenge on Hazel's 30th birthday.

"It will be mostly on-road cycling but some off-road as well. The landscape is volcanic with rain forest. It is supposed to be quite humid."

The couple have already begun training for the ride and have taken part in a Rotary Club pedal push event through the Chilterns.

They are also planning to take part in the London to Brighton cycle ride.

They are organising a race night at High Wycombe Rugby Club on June 9 with proceeds going to charity.
