MARLOW teacher Hayley Yelling continued her fine form at the fifth and penultimate meeting of the Reebok Cross Challenge series in Bute Park, Cardiff, with a second successive victory in the series.

Yelling, who is a teacher at Marlow's Sir William Borlase's School, once again beat reigning Reebok Challenge, Inter-Counties and English National Champion Tara Krzywicki in a 6km race.

The Hounslow runner had been level on points with Krzywicki in the overall standing for the Reebok Cross Challenge Series before the start of last weekend's race.

Yelling set a hot pace and dropped her closest rival before the halfway stage, but the reigning champion was only 20 metres adrift at the finish after a hard fought race.

The final race in the series will be the National Inter-Counties/World Championship Trials at Nottingham in early February.

Chiltern Harriers came away from their fourth Chiltern League Division One Cross-Country meeting last Saturday with a reasonable result despite missing several scoring athletes.

The ladies once again proved that they have the strongest team in the Home Counties, finishing top with an impressive performance from third-place Sally White, Cathy Holloway (7th), Josie Heffernan (8th) and Laura Butt (13th).

In the men's race Derek Brown was first home in 14th, closely followed by debutant New Zealander Brad Thompson in 16th, who was only two seconds behind.

With runners missing, the next scorers were Gary Walford (57th), Mikk Bradley (65th), Tony Richardson (66th) and Trevor Cook (69th).

New boy Simon Bennett ran well to finish seventh in the boys U15 race, with Thomas Beedell 12th. In the girls under 13 Hannah Graham was pleased with her fourth place.

On the day the team's overall performance gave them seventh spot, this score consolidating their current season's position of sixth. The senior ladies still top their individual league and look set to win the title.
