PUPILS at Hatters Lane School have been asked to come up with their own ideas of what the school should be called in the future.
The upper school, in High Wycombe, is to close in August and re-opens in September with a new name, new headteacher, new governors and about £1 million to spend on refurbishment. The new head will be appointed this week.
The suggestion box for names for the school closed on Monday and acting head Tina Barnes said the final choice would be up to the new head and governors.
The drastic changes at Hatters Lane are the result of a disastrous Ofsted report in February last year which said the children were not progressing well, their behaviour was poor and the school was poorly led. Inspectors put the school into special measures, which could have meant complete closure.
Tina was brought in from Great Marlow School, where she was a deputy head, after the Hatters Lane head, Christine Fithyan, went on long term sick leave before the Ofsted inspection. She said parents were very relieved the school would continue.
Mrs Barnes said: "My job now is to take the school to closure, while maintaining the improvements we have already put in place, and to close the school on a high."
