SOLVING the problem of lorries on Amersham Hill will take some time, a leading councillor has warned.

Wycombe district councillor Paul Rogerson, responsible for planning and transport, has written to the Free Press in response to the campaign to prevent a repeat of the tragedy in which Maggie Doel and Sally Jamieson died on June 14 when a lorry lost control.

In his letter Cllr Rogerson, said: "I share the views expressed in this newspaper that ways must be found to stop this kind of loss happening again. Solutions to this problem will not be easily found and care will have to be taken to ensure all the possibilities are properly evaluated. I would ask that time be given to allow this process to happen".

More then £2,000 has been raised for the Bucks Free Press/Aitchison's appeal to help the children of the two victims. Donations have come from Andronicos iCommerce International, Concept Cleaning and High Wycombe Guarantors, a charity group of 40 businessmen, among many others. Guarantors group secretary John Broom Smith said they unanimously agreed the proceeds of a golf afternoon and collection at a dinner should go to the appeal. Donations payable to Doel and Jamieson Fund Ref MNE can be sent to James Clements, Free Press, Gomm Road, High Wycombe, HP13 7DW.
