PEOPLE were pulled in by the beat when a third world drum festival was held at Wycombe Arts Centre.

Djembe drums, Irish bodhran drums, sabar drums played with one hand and a stick and samba drums were heard from morning until night at the Spring Gardens centre on Saturday.

Other drums were the kpanlogo, from Ghana, and the taiko, a type of Japanese drum.

Magatte Dieng, who used to play with respected Senegalese singer Youssou N'dour, was a teacher at the event, which consisted of workshops in the morning and a world class performance in the evening.

More than 200 visitors arrived to see the event, which also included Tamashi Taiko drummers.

Jed Hoile, one of the organisers, said: "They [Tamashi Taiko] were amazing. They were completely crazy and mad and skilful and superb to watch all at the same time.

"It is really good what people can do when they really put their minds to it. The evening was wonderful and there was a nice feeling of creating something together. It was a special event."
