GET your mutt dressed up and take your pooch to work.

Take Your Dog to Work Day, organised by the Blue Cross and sponsored by Pedigree, has become one of the most popular events in the canine calendar.

Career dogs have benefited from gaining work experience in offices, schools, hospices and factories, and on the road as travelling companions to lorry drivers.

This event aims to encourage people to take their dogs into the workplace, rather than leave them alone.

Registration for this year's event is free and takes place on September 25.

Now in its sixth year, the event is carried out to help raise funds for the Blue Cross to enable it to go on caring for animals in need.

Everyone who takes part will receive a goody bag and there is also a chance to become titleholder of the Top Dog at Work 2001.

Last year's winner Max, a teacher's dog from Cumbria, beat hundreds of canine hopefuls to the award because of his role in providing school children with companionship and affection.
