NOMINATIONS are needed for an unsung heroine who has made an exceptional contribution to people in the community.
The awards are run by the Soroptimist International group in High Wycombe, which is an organisation of women representing the businesses and professions of their local area, who raise money for local, national and international charities.
Previous winners of the Soroptimist Woman in the Community award have included the late Wyn Hussey, for her work with the Pensioners' Voice; Estelle Williams MBE, for her work with the Afro-Caribbean Day Centre; and Joan DeVal, for her pastoral work with young girls at Wycombe High School.
Women nominated should live or work in the High Wycombe area and can be nominated for community work of any kind.
Jenny Vince, regional vice president, said: "These awards have really raised awareness of people who wouldn't normally be recognised, particularly Joan DeVal.
"She worked for years with those girls with no real recognition. Estelle Williams has actually just been given an MBE but we recognised her first."
For nomination forms contact Soroptimist International, c/o 6 Well End Cottages, Marlow, SL8 5PH. Forms must be returned by August 31.
