TWO youths conned their way into an 81-year-old woman's house and stole £330.

The youths called at the back door of the pensioner's home, in New Road Gardens, High Wycombe, on Friday at 4pm and asked her if she had seen their ball.

She went into the garden to look for it and while one of the youths distracted her, the other stole the money from inside the house.

Both are described as white, of medium build, mid to late teens. One was about 5ft 5ins tall with light brown hair and the other is about 5ft 7ins tall with short dark hair.

Kate Spark, police spokesman, urged the elderly to be vigilant.

She said: "Always be on your guard when answering the door to unexpected callers and never leave them standing unattended on the door step when the door is open.

"It only takes seconds for a thief to walk into your home and steal a purse or wallet. If you are at all suspicious of unexpected callers, close the door and call the police immediately."

She also appealed to the elderly not to keep large sums of money at home and stressed the benefits of installing a spy hole and chain on the front door.

Witnesses should call PC Dominic Found on 01494 465888.
