DEFIANT motorist Bob Kalber says he would rather go to prison than pay a parking fine he claims he got after a warden failed to see the disabled badge on his car.
Mr Kalber, of Narcot Road, Chalfont St Giles, is disgusted after being told he faces a fine of £60. He is prepared to go through the courts to avoid paying.
The 65-year-old former taxi driver, who was left disabled after being knocked down by a car in America, was given a ticket after parking in a disabled parking bay in August while out weekly shopping in Uxbridge. But he claims the parking attendant failed to see the disabled badge through his car windscreen.
Mr Kalber explained: "I think this is an absolute disgrace and I'm not paying it. I answered the original charge by pointing out that my badge may not have been visible in reflective sunlight, as I have noticed myself on several occasions.
"I was under the impression my explanation was accepted but now several months later they have threatened me with a £60 fine."
He has been registered as disabled for more than three years and added: "It is sickening. These people have powers of discretion.
"I'd rather get ut away than pay this fine. Someone has to stand up to these people."
The original £30 fine Mr Kalber received was put up to £60 after he appealed against it and sent a photocopy of his valid badge to parking services at the London Borough of Hillingdon.
Jenny Vickers, spokesman for the council, said a copy of Mr Kalber's badge had been received and the parking notice would probably be written off.
She added: "Mr Kalber's appeal will now need to go through the appeals process."
