PEOPLE can have their say on the town's traffic woes when plans to find an answer go out in the autumn.

The Wycombe Corridors Study has been drawn up for Buckinghamshire County Council and Wycombe District Council and looks at the four main road arteries into High Wycombe.

It suggests lots of minor measures to make life safer for pedestrians, improve conditions for cyclists and drivers and, above all, speed up buses.

The study includes a one-way flow round the Abbey Way gyratory, two short new road links, new traffic lights at busy junctions and bus priority measures.

The study was discussed by a panel of county and district councillors on Monday where the main cause of argument was the way the public was to be consulted.

Officers wanted a paper and electronic exercise only, with details on the website and a leaflet sent to homes.

But members said High Wycombe people were the experts and would want a proper say, via exhibitions with officers present to explain.

District and county councillor Lesley Clarke said: "Local people have lots of knowledge which we should be tapping into."

County councillor Brian Stenner added there must be the widest possible consultations and district member Anthea Hardy said people would have strong views.
