We're ready for thrilling 90 minutes

GET ready for another roller coaster ride that is Wycombe Wanderers' cup run.

It has been an amazing season for Wycombe. No-one could have predicted the brilliant goals, the saves, sendings-off and controversies that have brought the Blues from negotiating a possible first-round upset to the biggest match in the history of the club.

From that first-round match against Harrow, the Chairboys have played nine games in the FA Cup, lasting 840 minutes and including a penalty shoot-out.

They scored their first ever goal in the third round and beat higher league opposition in the fourth round. Against Wimbledon in the fifth round, the Blues made more comebacks than the Rolling Stones and went on to beat Premiership opposition in the quarter-final. But it doesn't stop there.

On Sunday, Wycombe have got the chance to carry on making history and become the first team from the second division to make the FA Cup Final.

It's a slim chance but Wycombe have grabbed every chance going so far. So enjoy it, get behind the team and fasten your seat belt.

Here we go again.

Time to wipe the rubbish slate clean

LET'S hope this long and miserable episode with refuse collection in Chiltern has come to an end.

For months householders have had to put up with an unreliable and often poor service.

But Mr Riley, the new Managing Director of Onyx Greater London and the South, seems like he's got his finger on the pulse.

It's clear from the comments of councillors and managers at the firm that there have been serious problems at the company.

But now it's time for everyone to stand back, take a deep breath and give the new management team at Onyx a chance.

We have to commend Mr Riley for taking the time to come and explain the company's plans for improvement.

In this day and age it's quite unusual to see a great deal of openness at the high levels of business that's why Mr Riley's decision to come to a public meeting should be praised.

When the service provided by Onyx did reach crisis point, before and just after Christmas, many factors played a part including bad weather and vehicle breakdown.

But now management error has also been identified as having played a part, Onyx bosses can move forward safe in the knowledge that they can have a fresh start.

We should move to fixed-term vote

IS the Prime Minister's decision to postpone the General Election until June 7 an act of strong leadership in the face of suffering, or one of stupendous hypocrisy taken for electoral advantage?

Well, technically, neither because the Prime Minister has not put off the General Election. He has only put off the county council elections. The words General Election haven't crossed his lips in public.

If it's only the local elections that are off, why are we told all the Prime Minister's valuable time is needed for the next two months to save the country from foot and mouth? We don't need him to run local elections, so what's his problem?

But everyone knows it's the general election that is off. The Labour party in the country was told to prepare for it, journalists were strung along and everyone was ready.

This is what is so galling for voters. They are treated like small children. "Don't mention the election in front of the kids. They might find out something the grown ups don't want them to know yet".

It's ludicrous that we should be informed this way, via whispers and rumours. After all we put the MPs in power.

We should elect Parliament on a fixed date once every four or five years, the same as for local councils, the European Parliament and in the US.

Community effort

WELL done to Scannappeal for reaching its £600,000 target to buy vital equipment.

The new spiral scanner, which will offer a quicker and more accurate diagnosis to thousands of people, is a credit to the many individuals and organisations who helped the charity hit its target ahead of schedule.

Without the willingness of people to raise money for such a good cause, an appeal like this would take far longer to complete.

Everyone involved has shown that when a community put its mind to something, there is nothing it can't achieve.
