A TEAM of trained palliative nurses are being sent to India to give them the opportunity to study their vocation in another country.

The Clubs of Rotary District 1090 are sending the nurses to Bangalore as part of the Rotary International's continuing support of cultural and educational exchange programmes for young business and professional people.

One of the people going on the six-week trip is Dr Debbie Watkinson from Chesham.

Dr Watkinson trained in medicine at University College, London, where she qualified in 1988, and then trained in general practice in Watford.

She then studied for a diploma in tropical medicine before she and her husband went to work in a rural hospital in India.

On her return to England, Dr Watkinson completed a diploma in palliative care at Cardiff in 1997, before being appointed to the position of associated specialist at the Aylesbury Hospice in 2000. The team will be flying out tomorrow.
