A CONSULTANTS' report, which will be used to help local councils and government agencies draw up plans to improve the notorious Handy Cross junction, has still not surfaced.

The subject was on the agenda at Wednesday's meeting of the south east regional planning committee. Wycombe District Council is also trying to find out from the government what is happening. Regional planning committee member, Buckinghamshire county councillor Bill Chapple, said getting rid of the bottleneck was important and the south east regional assembly had recommended that there should be a commitment to a full range of measures.

Cllr Chapple said he did not think there was any question of rebuilding the interchange. That would have cost £78 million when it was first considered several years ago. He said: "What they are talking about is extra capacity slip roads and taking traffic off the roundabout. That was part of a public consultation about a year ago."

He said local councils would have to work in partnership to make sure the improvements took place.
