CITIZENS of the year for Princes Risborough were announced at the annual town meeting.

Tom Kingham, 78, and Madeline Forester, 80, were awarded the title on May 24 for helping the community of Risborough not just in the past 12 months but in previous years.

David Allworth, chairman of Princes Risborough Town Council, said: "There are so many well-deserved residents, even though they shy away from publicity."

Mr Kingham was nominated for his work as founder chairman of new charity Risborough Cares.

He helped set up the charity last year to complement the work done by social services for people with mental, physical and learning difficulties.

Cllr Allworth paid tribute to Mr Kingham's work for other charities and bodies like patients' committees and for Risborough Day Centre in Bell Street.

Cllr Allworth said: "I sometimes wonder if he gets home."

Mr Kingham said: "The award is for all the people who have supported the charity."

Mrs Forester was announced as citizen of the year for her work for Buckinghamshire Association for the Blind and Partially Sighted (BAB) in Princes Risborough.

The nomination said she devoted a lot of her time to youth groups.
