RESIDENTS in Hazlemere met on Friday to discuss the future of the Cedar Park School site.

The meeting was organised by district and parish councillor Les Taylor, who wants community facilities rather than the old people's home proposed by Buckinghamshire County Council for the site.

The county council wants to move people living in Katharine Knapp old people's home in Tylers Green into a new building on the site in Cedar Avenue, Hazlemere.

Wycombe district councillor Taylor (Con, Hazlemere West ) told the meeting: "Every time I go to the shops there is always a group of youngsters in this area with nothing to do. They have nowhere to go. There is mess everywhere.

"They can't get to the community centre as their parents won't allow it it is too far away. This is our only opportunity for the young, old and the middle-aged to have something for all of us."

Resident and district councillor, David Carroll ( Con, Kingshill) who lives in Roberts Ride, Hazlemere, said: "My young lad would love it.

"He would take the opportunity to use the facilities of the centre.

He added: "It is a fantastic idea."

But a resident, who didn't want to be named, said: "I have youths hanging around outside my house and I get nervous about it. I wouldn't like to encourage them up here as well."

Cllr Taylor is urging the residents in favour of the new centre to write to the council in protest at the residential homes.
