A PASSENGER in a car coming off the motorway says she received the shock of her life when an elderly motorist drove down a slip road the wrong way.

Marian Heawood, of Winchbottom Lane, Little Marlow, was travelling home from Watford with her husband Colin last Tuesday at about 7pm.

The couple had turned off the M40 at Junction Three at Loudwater when a grey Ford Fiesta went past them at the roundabout and headed towards the motorway, travelling the wrong way.

Shocked Mrs Heawood said: "He was sitting there smoking his pipe. He just didn't seem to realise."

She added: "My husband's words were, 'He's on a suicide mission'."

Mrs Heawood said nobody tried to attract the attention of the driver even though the slip road was quite busy.

They immediately phoned the police from the Tesco car park but PC Mark Hagan and PC Cliff Cornell, of Amersham Traffic, found no trace of the car.
