A PICTURE of comic Norman Wisdom led to a barrage of phone calls from readers who remembered the time he filmed in the area.

The photo, published in last week's Bucks Free Press and on this website, was printed was of the filming of The Square Peg in 1958 but we did not know where it took place.

Nancy Brant, from Hazlemere, rang in and said the film was recorded at Wooburn Green Railway Station.

The former resident of Wooburn Green said: "I'm in the picture. Most of the people who lived in the village played extras in the film. He was lovely and everybody had a lovely time."

Reader David Lane said the picture was of the forecourt side of Wooburn Green Station and that the station was on the first railway line to Wycombe which opened in 1854.

Ronald Stopps, from Wooburn Green, also rang.

He said: "I wasn't there but I remember having to sleep in the shed in the picture when I came back from the Navy quite late at night and I didn't want to wake my father up."
