MORE volunteers are needed to help make the Christmas lights in Gerrards Cross this year the best ever.

Parish Cllr Tony Walker is behind the drive to get more businesses onto the lights committee.

He said there is also a possibility that the Rotary Club will become involved in the fundraising, and promises more fun events to finance the scheme.

The millennium display this year cost £14,000 which included a £6,000 contribution from the parish council.

Cllr Jennifer Woolveridge said that Gerrards Cross Parish Council did far more than other parish councils in the area to contribute towards the lights, and she was keen to get other parties involved.

The parish council will contribute £1,500 towards the lights this year.

Cllr Walker added: "The current fun evening that we have had has not gone down badly. We want to increase the fun element.

"The committee would like to see more lights in the village.

"The public have enjoyed what we have and we have to find new ways of providing more lights."
