DISABLED and elderly bus-users will soon be able to travel half-price after the introduction of a free bus pass.
The new free-of-charge passes, which used to cost £8 each, will be available from April after Wycombe district councillors voted to start the scheme earlier than the Government's date of June 1.
At a meeting of the council's planning, environment and transportation committee last week, Cllr Chris Oliver said a recent survey showed that cheap transport for the elderly was a key priority.
He added: "The council's bus pass scheme has always run annually from April and as of then the bus passes will be free of charge, ensuring that this saving is enjoyed by as many people as possible."
The move is part of a new Government initiative.
Wycombe District Council will also offer alternative options of tokens to purchase a railcard or for use on Dial-a-Ride taxis. A small charge will be made for these options.
