COOKHAM residents have been left wondering where their village welcome sign will be placed after Buckinghamshire County Council requested its removal from their land.
The request came after a boundary sign review exposed a 'discrepancy' Cookham's welcome sign was just across the Bucks border.
The county council asked the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead to remove the sign from its side of Cookham Bridge.
The Royal Borough is now faced with the task of finding a suitable spot on the other side of the recently renovated bridge.
The area by the Harvester restaurant is so thin the sign has been redesigned in order to fit and the county council has footed the bill for the new signs.
David Armstrong, clerk of Cookham Parish Council, said the council was not told about the shift and at first thought the sign might have been stolen.
He added: "It would have been nice if we had been told about this. I imagine there will be some concern about where they place it."
A spokesman for the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead said: "We had a request from Bucks County Council to move the signs and we have done so. We have redesigned the signs and are now looking for a suitable location."
A Buckinghamshire County Council spokesman said: "Previously we did not mind the signs being on the north bank but now the line has changed we felt it appropriate the signs were moved."
