ADAM Henley finished seventh in the second round of the British Cycling Federation Under 23 National Points League in Scotland.

The Wycombe rider shook off a heavy cold to compete in the 90-mile race and emerged with flying colours.

He stayed out of danger and was part of a seven-strong breakaway group which hit the front with 35 miles to go.

But the other six had too much fuel in the tank and Henley was left to take a splendid seventh place.

He flew back from Glasgow immediately afterwards and took part in Aylesbury Cycling Club's 120 kilometre race the following day where he finished among the main pack behind winner Aaron McCaffrey.

In the supporting 80 kilometre race, Wycombe's Paul Addy sprinted into eighth position and junior Simon Henley was a few places further back in the bunch behind the South African winner Adam Illingworth.

Elsewhere, it was another winning weekend for Dave Johnson who travelled to Newmarket for the second round of the Road Time Trial Councils National Points Circuit Series.

He completed two laps of the 12.5 mile undulating circuit taking the fastest veteran award and 12th place overall from a top field of 80 riders with an impressive time of 56.36 minutes.

Elsewhere, Colin Fury produced his best 25-mile time of the season riding

in the Century Road Club's time trial in Cambridgeshire. His time of 55mins 20 seconds was good enough to earn him eighth place, but a puncture put him out of contention the following morning in the West London Combine Association 25 time trial held over the A413 Amersham / Great Missenden road.

With Fury out of the running, Dave Baldwin won the Brocklehurst Trophy' for the fastest Wycombe rider in one hour six minutes and 24 seconds, just taking the honours form Steve Pulley who was 29 seconds behind.
