THE 5,500 mile gap between Lake Havasu City and Little Marlow has been bridged by a fairytale wedding.

Jason Bradley jetted across the Atlantic Ocean from New Hampshire to get down on bended knee and propose to his 23-year-old English rose Erica Burger in Little Marlow.

Erica said yes and the couple tied the knot at Lake Havasu City, near the Arizona-California border, last month after a three year transatlantic relationship.

The pair were hitched in the shadow of a very English structure - London Bridge, which used to straddle the River Thames just 30 miles downstream from Marlow Bridge.

The classic stone crossing was sold to the Americans for $2.5million in 1962. It was dismantled and then rebuilt at Lake Havasu City, opening in 1971.

Erica is the daughter of Bernard Burger who owns confectioners Burgers in the High Street, Marlow.

Mr Burger said: "The whole thing was absolutely fabulous. In terms of joy and happiness it ranks above getting married myself.

"We were going to do the cake but the people who ran the kitchens at the reception weren't too happy about us using their facility, but the cake was lovely a traditional American wedding cake."

Erica met her husband after a friend she grew-up with in Little Marlow moved to the States. While visiting her old neighbour the pair were introduced, fell in love and now plan to start a new life for themselves in America.
