RUNNERS taking part in the London Marathon are gearing up to raise cash for charity.

Participants around Bucks will now be in their final stages of training for the event on April 22.

Dick Taplin, of High Wycombe, is on course to raise £2,000 for the Miscarriage Association.

Karen Ilott, of Amersham, will be raising money for animal welfare charity Blue Cross and is hoping to raise more than £1,500. The money will go towards caring for sick, injured and unwanted animals.

Jane Jennings, of Lane End, is finding it difficult to train for the London Marathon because of the foot and mouth crisis, but is still managing to pound the streets in an effort to get fit to raise money for the Rural Housing Trust.

The Iain Rennie Hospice at Home is entering its largest team ever in the marathon. The charity has to raise an additional £100,000 in the year ahead.

Liz Rothera, of Amersham, is taking part in the Paris marathon for the Toybox charity.
