Re: Bucks Free Press and Star article Re Central Railway, February 1, 2001.

WE are rather concerned about the two articles in last week's papers.

Although it is good news that Central Railway are having difficulties raising the capital to finance their scheme and are reported as having approached the Government for assistance, there is no evidence whatsoever that they are withdrawing their ill-conceived scheme.

In view of this latest development, BUCKSCRAG is asking the public to write to John Prescott at the DETR, to ensure that Central Railway do not use back door methods to get their scheme approved.

Even if Central Railway admit that they are not going ahead with their scheme at the present time, there is nothing to stop them raising it again and making an application under the Transport and Works Act.

BUCKSCRAG and our national body NATCRAG must continue to lobby to get the Transport and Works Act amended so that this type of scheme cannot be continually resurrected.

We would ask The Star to inform its readers that Central Railways scheme is still very much a threat until there is a public announcement to the contrary.

We thank you for your support and hope it will continue until this scheme has been defeated once and for all.
