MORE volunteers, from all walks of life, are needed to serve as magistrates to help dispense justice in the county.

Wycombe and Beaconsfield Magistrates' Court want to recruit and train a further seven or eight justices of the peace, and it is appealing for applications from all sections of the community.

There are currently 122 magistrates serving on a rota basis at the court which covers a large part of South Bucks.

Philip Knowles, justices clerk in High Wycombe, said: "It is a chance to serve the community, particularly for people with a strong sense of justice and fair play."

Catherine Orr-Ewing, chairman of the Wycombe and Beaconsfield bench, said: "We are always glad to welcome applications for the magistracy from local residents from all sections of the community."

Recruits receive training and sit in court for at least 26 days a year. The work is unpaid, but volunteers do receive expenses and money for loss of earnings.

Applications are weclomed from anyone aged between 27 and 65, and potential JPs will be interviewed. No previous judicial experience is necessary. But the closing date for applications is August 31.
