PLOUGH Inn Football Club beat Cherry Tree 3-1 in Sunday's winner-takes-all championship decider to wrap up the Sunday Combination League and Cup double in their first season in the top flight.

They saw off the challenge of their fiercest rivals to add the championship trophy to the Challenge Cup they won a week earlier with a 3-1 win over Wycombe Town at Adams Park.

Two-goal Jason Bowler was the difference as the big crowd at Wooburn Park were treated to a battle royale.

He took just 18 minutes to make his mark with a blistering 25-yard free kick to open the scoring.

It stayed that way until the 58th minute when James Pritchard was on hand to slot in number two and put the Plough men within sight of the double.

Cherry Tree upped the tempo as they battled to get back into the match, but they didn't have the armoury to trouble the Plough defence until a well-flighted Chris Ayres free kick found the net to give Tree renewed hope.

But Plough refused to buckle and they regained their two-goal cushion 18 minutes from the end when Bowler held his nerve to hit home a penalty to cap a fine personal display to add to his previous week's cup final man of the match tag.
