I WOULD like to draw people's attention to the parking situation in Malthouse Way, Marlow.

The road is the only access route for residents in cars and delivery lorries into Barley Way and Brew Tower, yet it is frequently blocked by badly parked vehicles.

I can understand residents wishing to park outside their houses to unload children or shopping, but cars are frequently left there, along with those of shoppers and sixth form Borlasians. In the summer it is so congested that cars park on the pavement on both sides of the entrance to Barley Way.

When the housing area was developed on the brewery site a crossing island was placed at the junction of Pound Lane/Malthouse Way. A drop kerb is situated on both sides to enable easy, safe crossing for the vulnerable.

However, pedestrians wishing to cross with pushchairs or wheelchairs are almost certain to be met by cars parked bumper-to-bumper, obscuring the allocated drop kerb. This forces them onto the busy roundabout which I feel is an unnecessary risk when crossing aids are in place.

This kind of irresponsible and thoughtless behaviour is dangerous and uncalled for as directly opposite is the Leisure Centre car park. For the sake of a few pounds these drivers are putting our young and disabled at risk.

Rule 140 of the Highway Code states: " Do not park your vehicle where it would endanger or inconvenience pedestrians or other road users, for example: within ten metres of a junction, opposite a traffic island or where the kerb has been lowered to help wheelchair users."

I can only assume that these people are unaware that their actions are causing such inconvenience and I can only hope that this letter will draw attention to their actions.

Please when you park your car, consider the welfare of those of us who use the old fashioned method of walking from A to B.
