DRUNKARD Andrew Robinson, who appeared in court with two cans of Kestrel beer stuffed in his pockets, admitted to staggering into Wycombe Hospital and bellowing abuse at staff.

Dishevelled Robinson appeared at High Wycombe Magistrates Court and pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in the Accident and Emergency department at the hospital.

The court heard on Tuesday how Robinson, 42, of Queens Road, Princes Risborough, had stormed into the waiting area of the A&E Department reeking of alcohol, on December 30, and demanded that he was treated because he claimed he was "coughing blood".

Rosemary Lake, prosecuting, said: "The staff had tried to help him but there was nothing they could do with regard to treatment because he was being abusive and they wanted him to leave.

"They then had to call the police and when the officers arrived they noticed he smelt of alcohol. He was slurring and he was unsteady on his feet. The police got him out of the hospital but he continued to shout and be abusive."

Robinson shouted to the court from the dock: "I was not abusive. I am from good stock and I am on strong medication."

Magistrates told Robinson he would be in contempt of court if he continued to be abusive in the dock.

Mrs Lake then told the court how Robinson had to be hauled into High Wycombe Police Station after he continued to shout during the drunken incident at the hospital.

Chris Fairweather, defending, said that Robinson had a "serious long-term drink problem" and was aware it affected his behaviour but he added that the staff at the hospital knew him and knew his "bark was worse than his bite".

He added: "His conduct is based on a drink problem and the illness which results from it."

Robinson was fined £50 for being drunk and disorderly in a public place and ordered to pay £55 prosecution costs to be added on to existing fines for previous offences.
