A FLOODED field is not stopping the arrival of an annual steam fair which organisers say will be as popular as ever.

The Carter Steam fair has been setting up at West Wycombe field, near the Golden Ball, for decades but this year the heavy rain has caused them to move.

Anna Carter, proprietor, said: "The field at West Wycombe has been under water for months so we cannot set up in our usual spot. We have moved down the other end of the field but we want to let people know that we are still there." The steam fair will be held on Saturday and Sunday, from 2pm, and will include a firework display on Saturday evening.

Anna added: "We have bought in special tracking so people can park and we are only going to be a bit further down the field with all the usual rides and events."

All the regular steam rides will be there, including some big adult machines dating back to 1895.

Admission to the fair is free and it is £1 a ride.

"We have the steam-driven rock and roll machines too," explained Anna. "A lot of people come to see those, because we play all the original vinyl rock and roll records. Those machines are often the favourites."

The Carter Steam Fair is a family business that has been handed down through the generations. Anna ran the fair with her husband until he died last year, and now runs it with her children. She added: "People think we are not running any more because my husband died but we are still going strong."
