A DISABLED father has thanked a village shop after staff came to his aid by delivering his shopping for free.

Wheelchair-bound Ray Talbot, of Weedon Close, Chalfont St Peter, lost his only form of transport when his car was stolen and written off.

He was left housebound by the incident and was unable to get to the shops.

The 38-year-old, who has a seven-year-old daughter, said: "I had no money, no car and no way of getting to to the shops. Then I remembered seeing the delivery van from Budgens, my local store, so I called them to ask if they could be so kind as to bring me two pints of milk and a loaf of bread."

Mr Talbot was told that the delivery service from the shop was only for orders of £20 or more but managers made an exception and delivered his order at no extra charge.

Mr Talbot added: "I would like to say a very big thank you to a local supermarket for going out of their way to help me."

Joy Newham, customer services manager at Budgens, High Street, Chalfont St Peter, said: "Local stores can often go against the official rules to do whatever is best for the customer. Being a smaller store means that we are often able to get to know the customers individually."
