LEARNER driver Gareth Sampson has been disqualified from driving for two months even though he has not yet passed his test.

Sampson, of Abercromby Avenue, High Wycombe, was caught by police at the wheel of a car with only his provisional licence and no car insurance or L-plates.

He pleaded guilty to driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and to having no car insurance at High Wycombe Magistrates Court last Tuesday.

John Horn, prosecuting, said that Sampson had been stopped by police in Dashwood Avenue, High Wycombe, on July 19 when he was found to have only a provisional licence and no insurance.

Sampson, defending himself, told the court: "I knew I was wrong to drive with no insurance. Basically I am taking lessons at the moment and drive with my cousin.

"I have bought a car as an incentive to pass my test. I asked a cousin of mine to drive with me but knew I shouldn't have because I did not have any insurance."

He told the court he had left a job in Marlow as an administrative assistant and had found a similar position in High Wycombe.

Magistrates took into account his guilty plea and the fact that he was genuinely sorry for what he did and had new job opportunities.

For driving with no insurance he was fined £50 and disqualified from driving for two months.

For driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, his licence was endorsed and he was ordered to pay £35 prosecution costs.
