JOHAN Holder claimed Hazlemere Tennis Club's men's singles championship after an incredible fightback when he had looked down and out.

Club coach Calin Ursu had looked certain of wrapping up the contest, a repeat of last year's final, in two sets until Holder began his amazing comeback.

At 6-2, 5-1 down, he suddenly found the form to stage a fightback, eventually claiming the second set 7-5 before wrapping up the third 6-1 to take the title.

In the women's singles, there were no such surprises as number one seed Sarah Walker had a straight forward 6-2, 6-2 win over Rebecca Hickman.

Kevin Mills and Andy Pearce saw their run of four consecutive doubles titles ended by Gordon Reed and Tony Fermor (3-6, 6-4, 6-3), while Penny Walker and daughter Sarah beat Anthea Hickman and her daughter Rebecca to the women's doubles title.

The mixed doubles contest saw sparks fly when Kevin Mills and Rebecca Hickman, still smarting from earlier defeats, took on Paul Widdowson and Liz Keens.

Mills and Hickman eventually triumphed 13-11 in the third to round of an entertaining finals day.

Beth Payne and Alistair McKertie defeated Fred Keys and Sandra Thompson in the over 50s event.
