ELECTIONS to vote in representatives to safeguard the interests of the Asian community in Chesham are just over a week away.

The Anjuman-ul-Muslimeen elections take place at the mosque in Bellingdon Road on January 21, and Chesham town councillor Mohammed Bhatti is encouraging fellow muslims to use their vote.

Cllr Bhatti explained: "The elections are after two years and hopefully new people will come and represent the Asian community in Chesham."

After the January elections, successful candidates will form a new committee to deal with issues important to the town's Asian residents.

Cllr Bhatti added: "The main purpose of this committee is to look after Pakistani interests especially with religious needs. It will keep moving on Chesham's muslim community."

The committee will also liaise with other community groups and authorities such as the police and local councils.

Representatives can also give advice and assistance to individuals.
