CHILDREN have been learning about air pollution in lessons laid on by Wycombe District Council.

Air pollution officers from the council visited Francis Edmonds School in Lane End, on June 22 and last Friday morning to carry out air pollution experiments with year-six children.

Pupils made air pollution panels that enable them to see the effect of air pollution.

The panels are made of cardboard and petroleum jelly

The jelly collects air pollution and darkens, allowing the children to see how clean the air is.

The panels were put out on the school grounds and by the Handy Cross roundabout.

They looked at the effects of acid rain and also tried to get oxygen from plants.

Ben Coakley, the council's air quality officer, said: "Over 90 per cent of the children in the class regularly walk to school and it is clear that even at the early age of 11, most children have a good understanding and an interest in their environment."
