THE future use of The Bucks Free Press site is still shrouded in mystery after a public inquiry was adjourned until March.

The Free Press site in Gomm Road, High Wycombe, is one of the issues being discussed at the public inquiry following appeals from two companies over Wycombe District Council's proposals to allocate the land for housing developments in its new Local Plan.

Representatives from AXA Equity and Law Life Assurance Policy Plc and William Vere (Properties) Ltd disputed the council's plans in the district council chamber on Wednesday.

Mark Sackett, a partner in Mason Richards Planning of Bristol, claimed the land would offer an extremely poor residential environment due to its proximity to the railway and the lack of open space for 80 houses. Barrister Morag Ellis representing the district council, referred to the site as under used urban land that would be ideal for housing development.

The hearing will resume on March 2.

The Bucks Free Press is hoping to move to new offices in the High Wycombe area.
