A VILLAGE hall has received a lottery grant to help refurbish the kitchen and update the heating system.
The Community Fund, the new name for the National Lottery Charities Board, has given £7,556 to Sands Village Hall, Lane End Road, Sands.
The one-year grant will pay for refitting and refurbishment costs.
The village hall committee now has to come up with the same amount to carry out the refitting.
Victor West, chairman of the committee, said it was great to receive the grant, after two previous applications were turned down.
He said: "It's very good and we're pleased about it. We were beginning to think we weren't going to receive anything."
The village hall is currently used for a number of activities, including a nursery group, parents and toddlers, the Women's Institute and karate.
Mr West hopes the work will be carried out in summer so as not to inconvenience the groups.
