LEADING police officers have called for calm following the triple shooting which has left a schoolboy on a life support machine in hospital.

Rumours have been rife about the shooting in Kitchener Road, High Wycombe, which happened just before 6am last Wednesday and has left the community in a state of shock.

Detective Superintendent Trevor Davies, leading the case, said: "I would allay the public's fear that something like this could happen again. It is a very rare occurrence in this area.

"The people of High Wycombe should know that the streets are safe. This is now a major crime investigation and we have some very positive leads. Justice will be done."

Police appealed for help after the incident and warned at a press conference they would not accept people "running around the streets of Wycombe toting guns" in the wake of the shooting.

Police have praised those who have already called to offer information.

Superintendent Mick Doyle, of High Wycombe police, said: "We are very grateful for the help and support we have received from the community so far in our investigation.

"We have maintained close contact with key members of the community throughout our inquiries and offered reassurance and advice."

The 15-year-old boy, Jhanghir Khan, who suffered gunshot wounds to his head and neck, is still in a serious condition at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford following the attack.

His 21-year-old brothers Shoukat and Azad Khan were also shot but not as seriously injured, as they chased off the men, who escaped in a car.
