WELL-KNOWN former Fleet Street journalist Harry Warschauer died yesterday after a short illness, aged 76.

Harry, husband of Free Press journalist Judy, was an investigative reporter with The Sunday People for more than 20 years until the mid-eighties.

He later worked as Business Editor and Backchat columnist with the Free Press.

He was born in the village of Forst, on the German-Polish border and came to England as a refugee from Prague shortly before the Second World War.

Last year he attended the premier of Into the Arms of Strangers, a film based on the story of the Kindertransport which described the escape of Harry and 300 other children from the Nazis.

Funeral arrangements have yet to be confirmed but the Free Press can be contacted on 01494 755081
