A CRASH involving a lorry towing a trailer closed the M40 in both directions for more than two hours.
The lorry crossed the central reservation between junctions three and four as it was travelling towards London, at about 1.20pm
It was then in collision with a Land Rover Discovery and a Ford Granada.
Fire crews released a man from the wreckage but then had to start cleaning up oil, which had seeped from the lorry's transporter.
The driver of the Granada was airlifted to the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, with a suspected chest injury and is described as serious but stable
Three other casualties, including a girl of 14, were taken to Wycombe Hospital with minor injuries.
One lane of the M40 southbound was reopened at about 3.30pm.
Three fire engines were used with crews coming from Beaconsfield and High Wycombe.
Any witnesses are asked to call Sgt Ray Scotcher of Amersham Traffic on 01494 465888.
