ORGANISERS who are preparing for the 12th Wycombe Charity Carnival hope to attract a record crowd to the colourful event.

The carnival procession on Sunday (May 6) on The Rye, High Wycombe, includes marching bands, American cars, Bodger from Wycombe Wanderers and the mayor's colourful bus.

It will start from Safeway, Temple End, High Wycombe, at 1pm and will go through Frogmoor and down to The Rye.

There will be 35 charity stands and on view will be a helicopter, and a police recruitment van. The Iain Rennie Hospice at Home has 17 teams in one of the events, It's a Knock Out.

The carnival will be officially opened by High Wycombe Mayor Mahboob Hussain at 2pm but the fun and games will be taking place throughout the morning.

Jim Tanner, chairman and life president of the carnival, said: "The mayor is going to be driven in a Pink Cadillac this year. It's going to be a very colourful event.

"We are hoping it's going to be as good as ever, especially as we have a record number of stands. Now we are just praying for good weather and a record attendance."

There will be lots of events in the arena including The Arizona Cowboys, The Llorette Majorettes and a dog show.

All the proceeds from the event will be distributed among DiabetesUK, The Mayor's Appeal, The Two Shires Ambulance service, The Iain Rennie Hospice At Home, SIGN and Save The Children Fund.

Entrance to the carnival is free.
