GOVERNMENT inspectors say Dr Challoner's High School is an excellent school with excellent teaching.

The school in Cokes Lane, Little Chalfont, was praised following a visit from Ofsted the Office for Standards in Education.

Teaching standards, pupils' attitudes and the management of the school are all excellent, say the inspectors in a newly published report.

The visit revealed that results in GCSEs, A-Levels and national tests for 14-year-olds were all very high.

There is also praise for the school's governing body.

Headteacher Sue Lawson welcomed the report saying: "We're delighted that the inspectors have so many good things to say about the school and its pupils. Having said that we are keen to continue maintaining, and where appropriate raise standards, and everyone involved staff governors, pupils and their parents will continue to work hard to achieve that."

The school's chairman of governors, Peter Cleminson, said: "It's pleasing to see that inspectors have recognised the school's achievements and the high quality of staff.

"We will continue to help our pupils fulfil their potential."

The report also said the school provides an excellent range of opportunities for all aspects of students' personal development.

It said that students do not yet have sufficient opportunities to study the performing arts.
