A MINIATURE version of the Sir Steve Redgrave statue to be built in Marlow's Higginson Park has been put on display.

Residents and visitors to the town can see the model of the statue at the Wycombe District Council's Tourist Information Centre in the High Street.

The mini-statue is the showpiece of a display about the Marlow Redgrave Appeal at the Centre. The appeal needs £100,000 for the full-size version to be built.

The design was created by Neale Andrew, who has sculpted Gary Lineker, Mike Tyson, Bobby Moore and John Major.

The design was chosen by a selection committee which included Geoffrey Redgrave, Sir Steve's father, and fine art dealer David Messum.

Hugh McNearnie, chairman of the selection committee, said: "We have made a great start in raising the money necessary for the statue, which will be one and a quarter life size, but we still have some way to go to reach our target of £100,000."

The statue has planning permission and Sir Steve will undertake the first of a number of life sittings for it in the next few weeks. The statue will be placed outside the conservatory area of Court Garden, looking down towards the river. If you wish to help with the fundraising call 01628 472088.
