HIGH Wycombe Cycling Club's prolific veteran Dave Johnson's came to an abrupt halt on Saturday when the Letchworth Velo ten mile time trial he was competing in was cancelled.
Johnson and his fellow Wycombe riders Ian Welch and Adam Henley were all stopped in their tracks after an accident involving one rider forced organisers to cancel the race.
But Johnson, who had been due to compete in the Whiteleaf hilly time trial last Tuesday before heavy rain saw it postponed, eventually got some racing under his belt on Sunday.
He stormed to a win in the club's 17-mile Chiltern Cup event, setting a new veteran's record in the process.
He broke the ten-year record set by former club champion Matt Watts of 1min, 20sec.
On Sunday, High Wycombe Cycling Club stage their Open 25 mile time trial and the George Addy Veterans Memorial Time Trial between the Marlow Bypass and Maidenhead Thicket.
Current national champion Michael Hutchinson will be among the 118-strong field.
The event will start at 7am.
