DEAD animals will be disposed of at a Buckinghamshire landfill site as a result of the foot and mouth virus.

The site, at Calvert in the north of the county, does not normally take animal carcasses and will not be taking any animals either with foot and mouth, or which are disease-free but have had to be killed as part of the foot and mouth cull.

Calvert will take other dead animals to free up spaces elsewhere for foot and mouth carcasses. The site was identified by the Environment Agency as suitable.

Animals going to Calvert come only from Buckinghamshire and the Cherwell district of Oxfordshire and so far only eight have been taken there. Vehicles using the site will be disinfected.
